Massage Therapy

Manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques, to enhance function, aid healing, decrease muscle reflex activity, inhibit motor-neuron excitability, and promote relaxation and well-being.

One of the key components of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and is among the oldest healing practices in the world. Acupuncture involves the stimulation of points on the body using a variety of techniques, such as penetrating the skin with needles that are then manipulated manually or by electrical stimulation.

A Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Lymphedema Treatment

The most common treatments for lymphedema are a combination of manual compression lymphatic massage, compression garments or bandaging. Complex decongestive physiotherapy is an empiric system of lymphatic massage, skin care, and compressive garments. Although a combination treatment program may be ideal, any of the treatments can be done individually.
